It is Active April once again and whilst ideally you will be active all year round, Active April is a great way to begin to create the habit of including more physical activity or movement in to your routine.
There are many benefits to increasing your physical activity. Often we think of needing to exercise in order to lose or maintain weight, but there are many reasons to exercise regularly beyond weight maintenance.
We need movement or exercise to:
- support our cardiovascular health
- to boost our circulation and,
- stimulate metabolism.
Exercise can also:
- be a great outlet for stress
- encourage clearer thinking
- improve sleep quality and,
- increase your energy levels.
In Ballarat we have so many options available to us to support us in being more physically active.
We have many gyms (some which are open 24hours), great personal trainers offering group training or one on one sessions, including some who are mobile and can come to you if needed. We have yoga and pilates studios, dance classes, team sports and clubs, indoor and outdoor pools.
We also have beautiful walking or riding tracks along the Yarrowee River Rrail and of course the wonderful Lake Wendouree.
A bit further afield there is St. George’s Lake in Creswick or Lake Daylesford as well many tracks in surrounding areas.
With Ballarat’s notorious cold weather not too far away, now is a great time to consider how you can continue to incorporate regular exercise or movement in to your routine once the days get shorter and less inviting to be out in. This can also involve a bit of a mindset shift where we focus less on the cold and more on the invigoration that exercise in cool weather can bring!
And if you register on the Active April website, you can add friends, track your activity and get access to dozens of discounts to the Aquatic Centre, Cardio Tennis, Sealife Aquarium and more!
