Everyone knows I love Ballarat. It’s my home town and it’s just beautiful, I love everything about it. Except one thing. WINTER.
Now before we go on a tangent about the weather, it’s not even the weather that bothers me. It’s the sickness!
Before kids, I didn’t mind the Winter. I just went to work as usual, complained about the temperature in the office and went home to my wood fire. But once I got pregnant, Winter was a whole new story! Suddenly I was actually in PAIN from the cold. My nipples were in excruciating pain in the cold, and I hadn’t even begun breastfeeding a baby yet! I went to work and cried numerous times until I warmed up, and I like to think my pain threshold is pretty high, so this was unlike me!
Then fast forward to my first winter with a baby, we got through pretty unscathed. It was nice to be home snuggling by the fire when the snow came down, and I rugged him up and went out for a play. But the second Winter. The Winter that we had started day care.
I have never known one household to be so sick, so constantly. It was like months of constant illness. From one thing to another and back again.
Once Spring came it slowed down and we finally got to enjoy a healthy home again. But it’s back, with a vengence! WINTER BUGS.
The cold weather came and so did the germs. It’s like you just start getting over one bug, and you’ve caught another, then next thing you know the whole house is down! And so are the neighbours and the grandparents. It’s relentless. And this week just gone has been the culmination of it. All 3 of us in our little family have been sick at once. But there is NO pity for Mum who is sick at 3 am, hasn’t slept yet because the coughing is relentless, and then toddler wakes up crying with an earache and doesn’t want DAD, he wants MUM. So you lie in bed together trying not to breathe for fear of coughing fits and spreading germs, and then wake up with conjunctivitis. Good times!
Anyway, to finish a sob story, I have found 2 things that have quite helped to ease some of the symptoms, which are essential oils and probiotics. So here’s to things looking up a bit!
But in the meantime, we have been to the doctor twice in one week, been to the 24/7 pharmacy for supplies late at night and considered calling the Nurse on Call, but thankfully didn’t need to.
So it reminded me, we have 2 directories on our website that could be REALLY handy for your family this Winter!
These treasures have been sitting on our website dormant for a little while, so it’s time we gave them a freshen up! So if you have some great health & wellbeing services you think should be listed on there, let us know in the comments on the directory page! And the same with the pharmacies, things change so quickly around Ballarat so if you know of a pharmacy that is not on the list, pop in a comment, or get in touch if their hours have changed.
We do try our best to keep on top of things, but you guys are amazing at letting us know what we need to share! So thank you.
And I truly hope that your family is in good health and steering clear of the Winter bugs!
