with Bianca Flint from The Wardrobe Green
Hello and welcome to the second edition of the Ballarat Op Shop Diaries! My name is Bianca and I am an Op Shop Enthusiast and Preloved Fashion Advocate. I run a small business called ‘The Wardrobe Green which celebrates and encourages Preloved Fashion.
I am thrilled to be writing a monthly Blog Review of Op shops in the Ballarat and Surrounding areas. I hope you’ll enjoy learning about what Ballarat has to offer in regards to sustainable living! Taking care of our planet is everyone’s responsibility and shopping Preloved is one way to make a huge difference! Plus it’s heaps of fun!
OP SHOP: Steptoes Op Shop – Ballan Lioness Club
LOCATION: 111 Inglis Street Ballan
OPEN HOURS: 9.30am – 3.30pm Friday and Saturday
SHOP SIZE: This Op Shop is a converted old house … therefore it has lots of rooms to look through!
AESTHETICS: Clean and organised. It’s well set out – making use of all the different rooms in the house.
ACCESS: There are two entries; through the front gate (which has some steps), and through the side / back entrance which is suitable for Prams and Wheelchairs (as it has a ramp).
STOCK: There is a huge variety of items to be found here! The shop itself has an array of clothing, accessories, homewares, children’s toys, Linen and more books than you could poke a stick at! In addition it also has a large shed out the back, which houses furniture, Picture frames, Cookware, Men’s clothing and even a large selection of ‘Costumes’!
PRICING: Prices are low, so many bargains to be found here!! But keep in mind … they DO NOT have EFTPOS … it’s cash only sales! So go prepared with cash in your purse!
STORE HIGHLIGHTS: The sheer size and volume of stock … there’s lots to look at … and I have found the quality of goods to be very high! The way the house is set out, makes it easy to visit with children, as there is a whole room dedicated to Children’s Clothing and Toys! The staff do make it clear though, with a sign in the room that reads ‘Children must be supervised at all times’. So be respectful of the volunteers and ensure any mess made by the kiddies is cleaned up before you leave!
DONATIONS: Donations can be delivered during opening times, and taken straight round the side / back … and into the sorting shed. Afterhours there is a Donations Bin available.
Remember that when making donations to any op shop, please ensure items are clean and in good working order. If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, then don’t give it to the op shop – that’s generally a good rule of thumb!
MY OVERALL STAR RATING: 5 STARS!
