If you follow our Instagram, you would know that yesterday while I was quietly hiding in my office curating a little story, my son noticed I was missing, and went looking for me…. OUT THE FRONT DOOR AND ONTO THE STREET! He is 2!
I never run that fast in fitness class! But man, I pelted out the door and grabbed that little Houdini and hoisted him back in the house so fast! It really scared me!
But it got me thinking. While I was there tenderly curating my Instagram story, and getting so caught up in wondering whether we should rebrand our Instagram feed to make it look prettier, or more consistent, or more “professional”, I remembered, that even behind the Ballarat Family Guide, it’s really just me (Louise), Kathryn and Hannah! Two Mums and an Aunty! (May 29 2018 edit, it’s now 4 of us!)
And like you, we have our own personal Instagram accounts and are flooded daily by the barrage of perfect bodies, tailored news feeds, professional photography, models, poses and the whole demoralising, self deprecating emotional whirlwind that goes with social media! The perfect facade, that covers up what’s really going on for most of us.
With Mother’s Day coming up, it’s more prevalent than ever. From the media, Mother’s Day looks like roses, foot massages and luncheons, and I don’t know about you, but I know that my Mother’s Day sure don’t look like that! I’m heading into my third year, and I can tell you, that my very first Mother’s Day was a complete let down, and I felt like crying more than anything. I was so tired, I had to get up early to a shitty nappy that Dad couldn’t handle, and there was no fanfare or ceremony!
Anyway…fast forward to now, and I’m over it, and know that it’s just like every other day.
So I got to thinking.
What if we flood the Internet with our own posts?
The Real Mums of Ballarat!
If you’d like to join me, I’d love for you to click over to Instagram and do 3 things:
1. Post 2 pics of yourself (one looking HOT, the other NOT)
2. Tell us 3 random facts about yourself in the caption
3. And tag #realmumsofballarat
I can’t wait to see your posts!
